SANTIAGO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Chile's economy grew by 2.6 percent in 2024, boosted mainly by exports, Finance Minister Mario Marcel said Tuesday, citing newly released data from the Central Bank of Chile.
"These figures confirm that 2024 was the year Chile regained its growth path," Marcel said.
The economy enters 2025 with a strong foundation, barring major external shocks, he said, adding that the growth over the past two years has exceeded expectations.
"This provides a solid base for taking on new challenges, including initiatives linked to the fiscal pact," he said.
The central bank said Chile's domestic demand grew by 1.3 percent in 2024, fueled by higher consumer spending. The mining, trade, personal services and transportation sectors contributed most to its GDP growth. ■
