SEOUL, March 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products rebounded in February due to strong demand for mobile devices and computers, government data showed Monday.
The ICT products shipment rose 1.2 percent from a year earlier to 16.71 billion U.S. dollars in February after sliding 0.4 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Semiconductor export shrank 3.0 percent to 9.65 billion dollars on the back of lower memory chip prices that offset robust demand for high bandwidth memory products used in generative artificial intelligence chipsets.
Display panel shipment declined 5.1 percent to 1.47 billion dollars, but mobile phone export advanced 33.3 percent to 1.07 billion dollars.
Shipment for computers and peripherals surged 26.9 percent to 940 million dollars, and communications equipment export soared 74.1 percent to 340 million dollars.
Import for ICT products grew 5.6 percent over the year to 10.90 billion dollars in February, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 5.81 billion dollars.
Import for chips, computers and mobile phones increased in single digits to 5.70 billion dollars, 1.10 billion dollars and 500 million dollars each. ■
