LOS ANGELES, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Matt Richtman won the 2025 Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, becoming the first American runner to win the race in over 30 years.
Richtman, a former member of the Montana State University cross-country team, won the men's race with a time of 2:07:56. Prior to him, Paul Pilkington was the last American runner to win the race, triumphing in 2:12:13 in 1994.
In the women's race, Tejinesh Tulu of Ethiopia finished first with a time of 2:30:16.
The men's race has been won by a Kenyan 22 times since 1999, with Ethiopians winning on the other four occasions, while African women have won 12 of the last 15 races.
According to the organizers, over 26,000 runners from around the world took part in Sunday's marathon, the 40th edition held in Los Angeles. ■
